Traffic stop leads to pot bust

WILBUR: A deputy discovered more than six pounds of marijuana worth up to $32,000 during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 Tuesday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy with a drug-detecting dog stopped a northbound 1999 Acura sedan for traffic violations near Milepost 133 north of Wilbur at about 3:30 p.m., according to a press release.

During the stop, driver Matthew Thomas Marriott, 19, of Williams gave the deputy consent to search the car.

The deputy found 6.5 pounds of packaged marijuana concealed in a duffel bag in the trunk, according to the press release. The marijuana had an estimated street value between $26,000 and $32,000.

Marriott allegedly told the deputy that he was taking the pot from Grants Pass to Eugene.

Marriott was arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail. He faces charges of the unlawful possession, delivery and manufacture of marijuana.
