DIAMOND LAKE: A Cottage Grove teen was injured Sunday when the snowmobile she was riding near Diamond Lake crashed into a tree.

Kyrstin L. Needham, 13, was driving a snowmobile on a trail with her parents at 1:54 p.m. around Highway 138 near Milepost 83 when the accident occurred.

When the snowmobile struck the tree, Needham hit the handlebars and then a snow bank, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

She was airlifted by a Mercy Flights helicopter to a hospital in Eugene for chest, neck and back injuries. Her condition was unavailable this morning.

Chemult Ambulance, Diamond Lake Resort employees and Air Life also responded.
