The victim of February’s Roseburg High School shooting remained in fair condition Friday morning at Mercy Medical Center.
Joseph Monti, 16, underwent surgery Thursday to remove more bullet fragments from areas close to his spine, said Eric Allison, Monti’s half-brother, this morning.
The RHS sophomore has also lost some feeling and control of his left foot, Allison said. He expects Monti to remain in the hospital for several more days.
Monti was shot Feb. 23 by a fellow student on the school campus as students headed to their first-period classes.
He was reportedly hit four times with bullets from a large-caliber pistol.
He underwent several hours of surgery after the attack to remove two bullets.
Hospital staff have reported Monti will need reconstructive surgery.
The alleged shooter, a 14-year-old RHS freshman, remains in custody at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center, pending his April 18 trial.
